Overture is a 21+ venue due to themes regarding violence, alcohol, and drug use.

"Come, my friends, to a place meant for friends to relax and find comfort in one another's presence and stories of adventure. A place where one's weary soul might find kindred spirits, and where we all are welcome. New face or old, Overture is for all seeking a night of comfort."

The building rests nestled in the Lavender Beds where the soft rain against the window panes serves as suitable, moody ambiance. Music plays gently from an antique phonograph, glasses clinking and the aroma of the different fogweed smokes wafting through the air. Despite the new surroundings, it feels familiar. A comfort you've longed for, somewhere you might call home.Welcome to OVERTURE

Games

- The Lawn -

Time to throw fisticuffs!

When it comes to OVERTURE, all sparring is to take place outside on the Lawn. Sparring should be friendly, consensual combat meant to strengthen bonds and test skills. Or, in some cases, resolve conflicts that words otherwise have failed to aleviate. All fighting will utilize the GRINDSTONE setup of rolling 1d20 for initiative, followed by using the same dice to decide on attacking and defending rolls. For those unfamiliar, the pattern should go as follows:INITIATIVE TURN -
Player A rolls a 15
Player B rolls an 8
!! PLAYER A ATTACKS FIRST !!
1.) Emote is written for attacking roll- PLEASE only IMPLY damage, DO NOT GODMOD
2.) Player A rolls a 3 to ATTACK
3.) Player B rolls an 11 to DEFEND
ATTACK MISSES
4.) Emote is written for the defense roll - TURN ENDS
!! PLAYER B ATTACKING TURN !!Yes, this does mean that players WILL post twice- please try to keep your defending or attacking post short as to keep fights snappy! Action is quick- your fights should be quick as well! Note: The Warding Stone will prevent ALL LETHAL DAMAGE.

- The Warding Stone -

An esoteric marvel!

A device of obscure origins, it is able to naturally inhibit kinetic damage and lessen the strength of powerful spell craft. Enough for the Lawn to provide a safe place for those wanting to engage in fights with minimal repercussion. Strangely, this only works against living beings.

- The Range -

May the sharpest shooter- or thrower- win!

Want to see who is the best marksman? This 1-v-1 game of aim is a way to test you and your ability to hit as center of the target as possible. Guns, bows, lances, and whatever else you might be able to stick into a target are all fair game!A more simple game meant to be a quick back-and-forth between a pair of competitors. Utilizing 1d20, players participating will take turns in throwing or shooting their chosen weapon at the designated target in order to accumulate points. Whoever has the most points by the end wins! Both players will have three tries each.Point System:
1 = A complete miss, 0 Points
2 - 8 = Outermost circle hit, 1 Point
9 - 15 = Middle circle hit, 2 Points
16 - 19 = Innermost circle hit, 3 Points
20 = Center target hit, 5 points
TIEBREAKER: In the event of a tie, both challengers earn one more attempt using 1d5. Whoever gets the higher number wins. If they both get the same number, repeat until a winner is chosen.TURN EXAMPLE:
1.) Both players roll 1d20 to determine where they hit+points.
2.) Both players will write out how their attack strikes the target dummy. Reload or re-equip as necessary.
3.) Repeat from Step One until three turns are completed.
The Range is also protected by the Warding Stone. Attempts, whether intentional or accidental, to injure another player will be nullified by the protective barrier generated over the target.

Secret Menu

No, I don't know how milk is keto.

Thaliak's Test

A drink for the bold, sporting mysterious effects.

Hand-crafted with a mathematician's precision, this drink is a lemon seltzer mixed with vodka along with a splash of blue curacao to give it a crystalline blue hue like the waters that pour forth from the Scholar's Ewer. Rimmed with a mix of graham crackers and sea salt while topped with whipped cream, the drink leaves you longing for a day on the cool beaches after a night of thoughtful studying. But what's even more interesting is the way you act after drinking it. What's in this?

Sharlayan Subterfuge

A smoke unlike the others, with a strange aftertaste.

Despite its name, this leaf is grown locally. However, it is thanks to alchemic testing performed on it afterwards that the formula was perfected. Available in small quantities, as it is a well-guarded secret that should not leave OVERTURE's doors.Smoking it feels more potent than any other fogweed available on the common market, perhaps even more than those available in more shaded places. But one cannot deny that the flavor is both intense and soothing, with even stranger things happening afterwards.

- Drinking & Smoking Games! -

Let's have some fun tonight, shall we?

The two options, Thaliak's Test and Sharlayan Subterfuge, are meant to provide characters with two different ways they can interact with a classic bar activity. That way, characters that do not indulge in one activity but enjoy another are able to participate! More fun for everyone, and treat these as mini-prompts!HOW IT WORKS:
Rolling a pure /random will get you a number that can fall into certain ranges, and each range boasts a different effect!
0-50: You cannot hold it down, it's time to get the bucket.50-100: You're feeling braver than usual, and will act more bold rather suddenly! Shyer characters might break out of their shells, for example. But bravery is fleeting, this will fade after only a bell.101-200: A strange aftertaste lingers on your tongue, and now everything starts to taste... a bit more electric??? Like getting a static shock whenever you try to eat something. This lasts for the next hour/bell.201-300: Suddenly, you feel like the FUNNIEST person in the room. Pray that you've prepared your best (and worst) jokes, because now you cannot stop saying them. At least, for the next hour/bell. PLEASE JOKE RESPONSIBLY.301-400: If you thought uncontrollable jokes were bad, unlucky for you. Dear friend, now everything is HILARIOUS to you, pray that your bones are able to survive for the next bell and half that this lasts for.401-500: If Pheros thought he had a sweet tooth, he has another thing coming. For the next bell and a half, you have an insatiable desire for sweets- desserts, drinks, breads, you name it!501-600: With a sing-song sigh, you realize that for the next bell, every word or sentence that leaves you comes in a melody. Even characters that believed they could not sing are sporting impressive notes!601-700: Whether a social butterfly or antisocial moth, you suddenly feel the courage to try and make a new friend tonight! Chat with someone you're unfamiliar with, and forge a new bond! Results may vary.701-800: Maybe what you had is a little too strong, because for the next bell and a half you feel fit to fall over even the slightest bump on the floor. Spilling and dropping the items in your hand also seems a bit more frequent, too.801-900: There's a spring in your step and you can't help but want to dance! For the next bell, you are the grooviest person in the room as you jive across the floor!901-998: As you lower your drink or smoke, you can feel yourself pondering over the base structure of your indulgence. The components are clear to you- and you realize that it feels as though you are a lot more enlightened than usual! ...For a bell.999: You feel like the LUCKIEST person on the whole star! Your world is brighter, you can practically SEE the stars- no you ARE a star-- metaphorically. For the rest of the night, your optimism is at an all-time high and your charisma can be practically felt by those around you.

Rules

- The Basics -

Overture is a 21+ venue due to themes regarding violence, alcohol, and drug use.

1.) We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly space. Any language or actions that threaten the safety of patrons will not be taken lightly and dealt with appropriately. This includes being banned from the venue/Discord should infringing actions be brought to the Proprietor's attention. Please be respectful of each other, both IN and OUT OF Character.2.) Bleed will not be tolerated here.
"Bleed" in the RP scene refers to a writer taking a character's actions and feelings as being a direct translation of the other writer's own actions or feelings towards them. This can range from interactions that are antagonistic in nature to ones that are romantic.
Before engaging in scenes, whether short or long-term, MAKE SURE TO COMMUNICATE with the other writer. Roleplay is about creating engaging and deep narratives with others and their ideas brought to the table in the form of created characters and story lines, and because of the emotional investment it can be easy to run into hangups. Please make sure that you and your writing partner are both consenting to what you put your characters through, and if you do not believe you can engage with another writer's character because they tread on topics that you cannot separate yourself from, PLEASE let them know in a kind manner!
If a situation arises that you'd like extra guidance in, feel free to reach out to the proprietor.
3.) Consent.
Consent is a core value when it comes to RP. As people interacting with one another, with characters that might have behaviors or backgrounds that can sometimes cause a bit of friction or conflict. Everyone who wishes to engage in Overture with others MUST make sure you have consent to create scenes that might be more dramatic. Either by reaching out to someone who you are going to directly engage with, or reaching out to the proprietor if it is going to impact the greater space.
It is then the proprietor's duty to make sure all patrons are aware of the scenario and its possible themes so that those who do not wish to engage can excuse themselves.
4.) Metagaming will not be allowed- be respectful of the information you learn about someone's character both in and out of play. Sometimes, people cannot help but share important lore details about a character that's dear to them- whether it be through a carrd or in passing conversation. However, you as the writer are the one aware of this information- NOT your character. As such, be mindful of the information your OC knows over what you have learned OOC in between writing sessions.5.) Character conflict is bound to happen and will be facilitated with care here at Overture. Please remember the rule about consent before engaging in altercations. When it comes to physical violence- light shoving as a form of aggressive engagement is passable when inside of the building. However, if you wish to escalate this into combat, you MUST GO TO THE LAWN. We do not want bar stools being tossed and broken bottles being used as shanks indoors. The Warding Stone will protect patrons inside as well, but keep it classy and throw hands where people can opt-in to watch if they want for dinner and a show.

And above all else, HAVE FUN!

Staff

- The Proprietor -

Pheros Ledimir

Best described as excitable and ever full of whimsy, the blonde Viera and Miqo'te hybrid hails from the island of Sharlayan, born and raised in its capital. Much of his life has been spent among the comfort of books and the infamous Archon Loaf, to which he is an avid enjoyer.

OVERTURE seems like an odd undertaking for the Cabbit, but he was insistent on its founding in order to provide a place for his growing circle of friends to have a relaxing start of their evening. He knows well that they might all butt heads from time to time but, at the end of the day, everyone who passes through the doors of the lounge are welcome like family all the same.

And hopefully, the many facilities provided by OVERTURE will help to both alleviate these moments of tension while also giving new ways for his differing friends to form bonds of their own between one another.

Baristas

Hakon Rehw-Gilda

J'silha Tia (NPC)

Leofric Cavaut (NPC)

- Rules of Play for NPCs -

To ease the stress of a busier night, NPCs are provided for guests to interact with and obtain orders from!

1.) You may be as brief as you'd like with the NPC characters! From being given your meal for the night to being passed a drink or smoke, these are acceptable ways to utilize the NPCs. You may even call them over to handle matters such as refills.2.) DO NOT overtake an NPC with headcanon. Think of them more as supplementary assets to the scene you are writing- the odd lass or lad on the beaches of Costa del Sol that accidentally dropped some precious item near the Apkallu nesting grounds. A throwaway line here or there is perfectly fine, but do not be overindulgent in creating a whole backstory for them. With time, personalities will be given in brief for NO-STAFF openings.3.) Thirdly, and this should go without saying, but do not write the interactions for REAL staff!
